Why does the price vary from shop to shop?
The international gold price is set in the London and New York markets and quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. Converted into euros per gram, that value is identical in Madrid, Vigo or Las Palmas.
What changes is the trading margin. A cash-for-gold shop buys below the metal's value to cover costs and profit: typically paying between 60% and 85%. In cities with lots of competition that percentage rises, while in smaller towns it tends to be lower.
