How the price of 100 grams of silver is calculated
Precious metals are priced internationally in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 g). We convert that quote into euros and divide it by 31.1035 to get the price of one gram of pure silver: today €1.54. Multiplying by 100 gives €153.81 for 100 grams of 100% pure metal.
Real pieces are rarely pure. Jewelry and cutlery are alloys, and the hallmark tells you the fineness in thousandths: Sterling silver 925 contains 92.5% silver, so 100 grams of it is worth €142.27. The table above repeats this calculation for every common purity.
Buying versus selling 100 grams
When you sell, buyers pay a percentage of the metal value to cover refining and margin — typically 60–85%. When you buy a 100 grams bar or coin, you pay a premium above the metal value instead. The gap between both prices is widest for small formats such as 1 g and 5 g, and narrows for 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg bars.
Tip: weigh your pieces on a kitchen scale with 0.1 g precision before visiting a buyer, separate them by hallmark, and compare the offer with the values on this page. A difference of a few euros per gram adds up quickly on 100 grams.
